I remember a week a few years ago, which mirrors what life looks like a lot of the time for us human beings. Our family was blessed with a brand new grandchild, so joy and gratitude were really on a high.

At the same time, our famiy was going through a really tough time in other ways. Joy, trouble, and sorrow often accompany each other through life. And in between the joy and the sorrow, the easy days and the hard days, there are a lot of ordinary days.

Yet, I think there is nothing ordinary about ordinary days. Every day is a gift that carries something unique, among other things, a new possibility to meet and receive God's unfailing love and grace.

Sometimes we might look at the ordinary days as just a stretch of the road that transports us to the special days we look forward to.

But suppose, for one reason or another, ordinary days don't seem like something you can count on anymore. In that case, you realize that ordinary days truly are treasures. Treasures we have been given to enjoy and steward.

So I believe life is joy and trouble, easy days and tough days, and at its best, a whole pile of ordinary days.

And the amazing and wonderful thing is that every new morning, ordinary day or not, we get to experience God's unfailing love once again!

"Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life. Rescue me from my enemies, Lord, for I hide myself in you. Teach me to do your will, for you or my God: may your good Spirit lead me on level ground." (Ps 143:8-10)
