Stormy weather

The weather where we live has been quite stormy these past few weeks.
It seems like bad weather, storms, and hurricanes are happening all over our planet right now.
Because of these, it seems many people are going through very hard times.
During a storm, we can feel helpless when left to the powers of the weather.
This got me thinking and remembering a sermon I heard this past spring by Patrik Hellström
from Jakobstad, Finland. He was preaching on the text in Luke 8 about when Jesus and His disciples were in a boat. Suddenly, they were caught in a terrible storm.
Jesus was sound asleep in the boat while the disciples were panicking and believing that they were going to drown and die.
They called out to Jesus to wake Him up. He got up and told the wind to be quiet and the waves to be still.
That´s exactly what happened. All was calm and still again.
Jesus asked the disciples, “Why didn´t you trust me?”
One of the things that stayed with me from Patrik´s sermon was when he said, “Jesus didn´t hear the storm, but He heard the disciples’ call for help.”
What great security this is for us to this very day!
Jesus has a totally different perspective than we human beings have. He doesn’t get afraid when the storm comes. He’s in control even when the only thing you and I can hear is the storm and the wind blowing in our lives.
And the most fantastic thing of all is that He hears us too, when we call out to Him for help!
He’s ready and willing to help us, when we call to Him, the same way He helped His disciples.
Does this mean that nothing bad will ever happen to us and that Jesus smooths out the road through life for us so that everything will be pleasant and easy?
No, that´s not how life works. But He has promised to always be with us, through the good days of our lives and also through the storms in our lives.
Sometimes we need to be reminded that Jesus has power and that His power is a power far greater than any other power on this earth or beyond.
We can trust Jesus. The disciples experienced that and so can you and I.
Maybe you need to ask Jesus to calm the storm in your life or within you today?
Ask Him to do it. He wants to and He is able.
And… do you know that He hears us not only when we cry out to Him , but He also hears us when we whisper or sigh to Him for help. He really does, because He is always so very, very close by.
