What do we see?

At the beginning of this year, Monte and I went to visit our family in California.
We had the privilege of celebrating a wedding in the family, and as always, it was so much fun to get to spend time with the American side of our family.
It was an extra blessing to be able to see our family after a couple of years with the pandemic. For me as a Swede, it was an added thrill to see the sun and enjoy warm weather in February!
After a few weeks it was time to go back home.
Our trip to Sweden originated from San Fransisco International airport.
With our bags packed and the GPS set on the airport, we said goodbye to the family and took off.
As we got closer to San Fransisco, it was time to find the right way through all the on- and off ramps going all kinds of directions.
I was super concentrated on finding the way since we had missed the turn once before and this time, we just didn´t have time to do that again. While Monte drove the car, I was on look out, scouting the road ahead.
Suddenly, Monte said, ”Did you see all the homeless people along the roadside, the tents, tarps, and all the shacks?”
My answer was, ”No, I was busy trying to figure out where we were going.”

Later it struck me that that´s what can happen in life. Sometimes I´m so focused on my road, my journey, and where I want to go or am going, that I no longer see what´s around me or the people around me. I really believe that we all in our inner most beings want to help and do wish each other well, at least to begin with, but things happen in our lives and that’s not always how it turns out.
When life’s preassures come, it´s easy to get ”tunnelvision” and only see that which affects on our own situation. Well, at least that´s how it can be for me.
But, I want to lift my eyes and widen my field of vision so I don´t miss what’s happening around me.
Because, maybe I can be a help and support to someone if I open my eyes and actually see them.
And, maybe, another time i might get help and support from some else if I dare to see those who are near me?
Right now, I really and truly think the world needs less tunnelvision and more open and loving eyes.
So what do I see? What do you see?
